Where does the leather come from?
The skins used for our products come from Australia, Argentina, Brazil, and India, among others. Each hide is different, for example in terms of absorbency. What many people do not know (and what is important to know), is that leather is a by-product. This means that no cows are slaughtered for the leather.
The Chesterfield Brand sees its leather producer as a partner rather than a supplier. The leather is not supplied through a middleman: instead, there is a direct line from our headquarters to the factory. The factory is visited an average of six times a year. Through good and frequent contact with our partner, we have a great influence on the quality and sustainability of the leather.
Only leather types that comply with EU regulations are used at The Chesterfield Brand. This is the REACH standard, the highest standard tested by internationally certified testing agencies.
What makes Wax Pull-up leather so special?
Before a bag reaches the shop, there is a whole process involved. The product is designed, the type of leather is chosen and made (in this case Wax Pull-up leather) and then the product is put together. Every part of a product from The Chesterfield Brand, from the shoulder strap to the zip puller, is individually crafted. This labour-intensive production process results in a beautiful product!
Cow Wax Pull-up, the name says it all: this leather comes from a cow. This type of leather is the most used leather by The Chesterfield Brand. Wax pull-up leather is characterised by its soft and supple structure. Any signs of use can easily be rubbed away because of the special wax treatment the bag has undergone. This makes your bag last for years and that is also what makes this type of leather unique!
How is this leather made?
After pressing, the leather is hand-coloured with aniline dyes impregnated with natural oils and waxes, instead of dyes and pigments. This soft finish ensures that the fabrics do not remain on the skin but soak deep into the pores of the skin. This creates the natural vintage look.
This type of leather is only treated with wax and not sprayed with colour. This way it keeps its quality and colour, which makes it a durable product. Throughout the years, your leather bag or accessory will therefore continue to look beautiful.
How do I maintain this type of leather?
Maintaining a product made of Wax Pull-up leather is very easy and takes little time and effort. We have developed a special maintenance product for this: leather wax. This wax can be used to maintain all products made by The Chesterfield Brand.
Here are a few tips on how to make the best use of our leather wax:
- Take a white cloth and gradually apply a little leather wax to the cloth.
- Be careful not to use too much leather wax at once.
- Rub the cloth lightly over the leather. You will see that the original colour is slowly returns. The leather gets more shine and damages fade away.
- Repeat the above operations until the desired effect is achieved.
We recommend that you treat your The Chesterfield Brand leather product with this leather wax four times a year. The wax is a cleaning and protective method in one product.
